The Sport of Powerhockey
As one of the few sports accessible to powerchair users, the competitive team sport of powerhockey is accessible to individuals with a wide range of disabilities including Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, and Spina Bifida, to name just a few. It is a distinctively inclusive sport as many of our para-athletes are physically unable to participate in other more widely known para-sports, such as wheelchair basketball, sledge hockey, and track and field.
Powerhockey enables players to meet and learn from others with similar disabilities as well as develop many transferable life skills including teamwork, collaboration, and analytical thinking. Lifelong friendships and relationships are fostered and a tight-knit community of players, coaches, volunteers, and fans are formed, where it becomes more than just hockey.
